  • Sturgeon fishing: Lots of oversized sturgeon still biting in the gorge if you have quality frozen shad. We had a great August with a daily catch average around 4 big fish a day. Last week we had one day where two customers landed 5 huge oversized between 10 and 13ft by 12:30. The fish have been much bigger in Aug then they were during the shad run and the catch rate has been as high or higher. For those targeting keeper sized sturgeon it will get going in a couple of weeks as the river cools and the keepers begin moving back upriver from the saltwater. The Willamette will start to get going in Oct or Nov as the water cools.

  • Steelhead: Lots of steelhead in the Columbia but most of the action will be above Bonneville Dam at Drano Lake and near the mouth of the Deschutes. Most folks below the dam will be targeting fall salmon.

  • Buoy 10 Salmon: Buoy 10 is now closed for the year.

  • Coastal River Fall Salmon: The Siletz River and Nehalem River are producing some nice fall fish. These rivers are early producers compared to the rest of the coast's rivers which will get going towards the later half of September. With the cooler than normal temps and recent rains we most likely will see more fish much earlier than in recent years. Look for mid Sept and October to be some great fishing on your favorite coastal river and bay. We will be starting our Newport - Yaquina river fall salmon trips mid Sept lasting into early November. Be sure to know the regulations and limits on wild fish in these rivers this year they are under special regulations and each one is different. They are all open but the rules aren't the same as years past.

  • Tired of Gill Nets?  you need to  JOIN CCA. The Coastal Conservation Association has been instrumental in the success of 100's of projects on the Gulf Coast and East Coast to reduce commercial over harvest, ban gill nets and to restore sport fisheries. We now have a Pacific Northwest Chapter. This is the best chance as sport fisherman in this region to speak with a unified voice and to actually be recognized. The goal is to reach 50,000 members regionally as soon as we can, we are already over 7000 members strong and growing.  Feel free to email me with any questions. To sign up go to one of the links below and download the form or come to the membership meeting

  • Columbia River Walleye: Walleye fishing will continue to be good into Oct with most of the effort being above Bonneville Dam. Some decent catches reported below Bonneville in the Portland area by the few chasing them.

  • Crabbing Report: Crabbing has been improving in all the bays. Best bets would be Newport, Tillamook, Coos Bay, Winchester Bay. The smaller shallower bays are still spotty. Sept will be the start of the really good crabbing. Its worth it now but you will have to toss a lot of soft ones back.

  • Ocean Salmon: Closed for the year

  • Tuna fishing: Tuna fishing has been great when the ocean is flat enough to get out to them. They havent been in as close as the last couple of years but are within reach of charters and some of the larger sport boats.

  • Shell fish hotline - clamming information: Please contact the following agencies for more information, call the Oregon Department of Agriculture's shellfish line (503-986-4728) or visit its Web site (www.oda.state.or.us) under "Warnings and Alerts."
